FRCF v3.5 - October 15th, 2009
We started FRCF in April of 2006. We opened our first, 1300 sq foot, stand alone space in August, 2006. Within 8 months, it became very apparent that we needed more room. After a couple of months of looking we found a great, 4000 sq foot space. It was perfect, and only 1.2 miles from our first location. We figured we would be in that space for a long time. We moved into our new home in August of 2007.
About 18 months later, that 4000 sq feet was starting to get a little bit tight. Luckily, the space next door was open, and it was 5400 sq feet. We started to seriously think about moving again. In April, 2009 we moved into the bigger space.
Now fast forward to today. We now lease both spaces with just over 9400 sq feet in total. 5400 sq feet in the main gym and 4000 sq feet in the Weight Room. But this time, we didn't take the extra space because we were running out of room. Our main CrossFit gym can accomodate up to 30 athletes doing a barbell-based CrossFit workout at the same time. Space wasn't the issue.
We have known for a long time that the difference between our top CrossFit athletes and everyone else, has been the amount of O-Lifting that they do. (And the amount of milk that they drink, but that is for another post.) We had been trying for a long time to figure out a way to get more of our athletes regularly O-Lifting. Well, we figured out a way.
We took the additional space so that we could offer some specialty workouts. Now you can do a CrossFit workout at 4:30, and start O-lifting at 5:30. Or do the 5:30 CrossFit workout and then do the 6:30 O-Lift workout. We also now offer a Basic Barbell class and have a Strength Program. The new space has 12 dedicated lifting platforms, 2 squat cages, 8 sets of squat stands, jerk boxes, pull boxes, 16 olympic training bars and about 4,000 lbs of weights.
